FAQ

Questions business owners ask before working with us

Straight answers about bookkeeping, cleanup, fractional CFO support, pricing, and how we work together. Don't see your question? Just ask.

Getting Started

How do I get started working with you?

It starts with a free consultation — a straightforward conversation about where your books stand today, what's not working, and what kind of support would actually help. From there we put together a quote built around your specific business, not a one-size-fits-all package.

What happens during the free consultation?

We'll talk through your business, how your books are currently handled, and what's prompting you to look for help — whether that's falling behind, outgrowing a DIY setup, preparing for a loan or investor, or just wanting things off your plate. You'll walk away with a clear sense of what tier of support fits and roughly what it would cost, with no pressure to commit on the spot.

How quickly can we get going?

Once we've agreed on scope, most clients are fully onboarded within a couple of weeks. If your books need cleanup first, that timeline depends on how far behind things are — we'll give you a realistic estimate before any work begins, not after.

Do you only work with businesses in Huntersville or Lake Norman?

Local businesses are where this firm started and remain a real focus — but the practice runs fully virtual, so we work with business owners across the country just as easily as we work with someone down the street. Location doesn't change how the work gets done.

What size or type of business do you work with?

Most clients are established small businesses that have outgrown a spreadsheet or a part-time bookkeeper but aren't ready for (or don't want) a full in-house finance department. If you're not sure whether you're a fit, the free consultation is the easiest way to find out.

Bookkeeping

What's actually included in your bookkeeping services?

At the core: transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliation, and monthly financial statements you can actually read and trust. Depending on your tier, that expands to accounts receivable follow-up, accounts payable and bill pay, KPI dashboards, and cash flow forecasting. See the Services page for the full tier breakdown.

What if my books are a mess or way behind?

That's one of the most common reasons people reach out — it's not a character flaw, and there's no judgment. We start at the point things went sideways, work forward account by account until everything reconciles, and hand off a clean, accurate file with no loose ends. From there, ongoing bookkeeping keeps it that way.

Do I need to use QuickBooks?

QuickBooks Online is our preferred platform and where we can move fastest for you, and we're a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. If you're on a different platform, talk to us during the consultation — depending on the software, we may still be able to help, or we can walk you through what a transition would look like.

How often will I hear from you, and what do reports look like?

Financial statements land in your inbox on the same date every month, so you never have to ask where they are. Higher tiers add a scheduled review call to walk through what the numbers actually mean for your business, not just deliver a PDF and disappear.

Who actually does the work — is it you, or a team?

You're talking directly to the person doing the work. There's no rotating account manager, no support ticket queue, and no handoff to a junior staffer you've never met — just direct access to someone who knows your business.

Pricing & Engagement

How much does bookkeeping cost?

It depends on your transaction volume, account complexity, and which tier fits your business, so we don't publish flat pricing — every quote is built around your specific situation rather than forcing you into a generic package. The free consultation is the fastest way to get an exact number.

Why isn't pricing listed on the website?

Two businesses of the same size can have very different bookkeeping needs depending on transaction volume, number of accounts, and how much cleanup is involved up front. A published price list would either be misleadingly low for complex books or unnecessarily high for simple ones — an honest quote takes an actual look at your situation first.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?

No long-term contract is required. We'd rather earn the relationship month over month than lock you into one.

What's the difference between the three service tiers?

Core Bookkeeping covers the fundamentals — categorization, reconciliation, and monthly statements. Full-Cycle Bookkeeping adds accounts receivable and accounts payable management for businesses juggling invoices and vendor bills. Strategic Advisory layers in KPI dashboards, cash flow forecasting, and fractional CFO-level guidance for businesses that want a deeper financial partner, not just clean books. Full details are on the Services page.

Can I upgrade or downgrade tiers later?

Yes. Most clients start with Core or Full-Cycle Bookkeeping and add Strategic Advisory once real pain points surface — usually a few months in, once we both know your business better. Nothing about the site or the process pushes you toward a bigger tier before you're ready for one.

Do you offer project-based or quarterly options instead of monthly?

Yes — a one-time cleanup or catch-up project is available at any tier, as is a lower-cost quarterly option instead of monthly service. Ask about either during your consultation.

Fractional CFO & Advisory

What is fractional CFO or Controller support, exactly?

It's the budgeting, forecasting, cash flow modeling, and board- or lender-ready reporting a full-time CFO would handle — sized and priced for a business that doesn't need (or can't yet justify) that role on payroll full time.

How do I know if my business needs advisory support, or if bookkeeping is enough?

If clean books are your main pain point, bookkeeping alone is the right starting place. Advisory support tends to make sense once you're making bigger decisions — pricing changes, hiring, a loan application, preparing for investors — and want more than historical numbers to make them with. There's no pressure to add it before you're actually at that point.

What kind of reporting or insight comes with the advisory tier?

KPI dashboards that flag what's working before your gut does, rolling cash flow forecasts, and board- or lender-ready reporting when you need to make a case to someone outside the business. This is the same discipline used to manage institutional real estate portfolios, scaled to a business your size.

Can I start with just bookkeeping and add advisory later?

That's the most common path, and it's intentional. We'd rather get your books right first and earn trust before ever suggesting more — advisory support is something you grow into, not something added on a timer.

What We Don't Do

Do you prepare or file taxes?

No — tax preparation and filing are outside our scope. Keeping the focus on bookkeeping and advisory means your books stay accurate and current year-round, not just rushed together every March. We're glad to refer you to a trusted CPA in our network for tax work, and to hand your accountant clean, tax-ready books when the time comes.

Do you handle payroll?

No, payroll processing isn't something we offer directly, but we're happy to point you toward a specialist who does — and we'll make sure payroll activity is reflected correctly in your books either way.

Do you file sales tax?

Sales tax filing is outside our scope as well. As with payroll and tax prep, we can refer you to someone who specializes in it.

Do you perform audits, reviews, or compilations?

No — we don't offer attest services of any kind. If your business needs an audit, review, or compilation, we can point you toward a firm that specializes in that work.

Working Together

Is everything done remotely?

Yes. The practice runs fully virtual — video calls, phone, and email cover everything a good bookkeeping relationship needs, whether you're a few minutes away in Huntersville or on the other side of the country.

How do we securely share financial documents and account access?

Through secure, permissioned access inside your bookkeeping software (typically QuickBooks Online) rather than emailing sensitive files back and forth. We'll walk you through exactly how that's set up during onboarding.

What if I'm not very tech-savvy?

That's fine — plenty of clients aren't, and it's not a barrier. We handle the software setup and can train you or whoever's holding the keys at whatever pace makes sense, or simply run things for you if you'd rather stay hands-off entirely.

How do I switch from my current bookkeeper or accountant?

We handle the transition — requesting access, reviewing your existing books, and flagging anything that needs cleanup before ongoing bookkeeping begins. Most business owners are surprised by how little they have to manage themselves during the switch.

What if I need to pause or cancel services?

Since there's no long-term contract, you're never locked in. If your needs change, let us know and we'll figure out the right next step together, whether that's pausing, scaling down, or ending the engagement cleanly.
